"Tanuja Desai Hidier’s novel Born Confused" on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 10:30 a.m. Seventeen-year-old Dimple, whose family is from India, discovers that she is not Indian enough for the Indians and not American enough for the Americans. She watches her beautiful, manipulative best friend take possession of both her heritage and the boy she likes. The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month in the Grace Tigard Houghton Room...new members are always welcome.
The Tigard Library Evening Book Group invites readers to discuss The Yiddish Policemen’s Union on Wednesday, October 28, at 7 p.m. Pulitzer prize-winning author Michael Chabon imagines a world where Alaska, not Israel, became the homeland for the Jews after World War II.
In this world, Detective Meyer Landsman and his half-Tlingit partner Berko Shemets investigate the death of a heroin-addicted chess prodigy. Publisher’s Weekly describes the novel as “a murder-mystery speculative-history Jewish-identity noir chess thriller.” The Evening Book group meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm in the Grace Tigard Houghton Room on the 2nd Floor....new memebers are always welcome!
